Bed Bug Awareness Week

It’s #BedBugAwareness week, and Brock Pest Control would like to pass along some valuable information to help you identify these pests.

Bed Bugs, Brock Pest ControlFirst, they are still a big problem. According to a study from the University of Kentucky, nearly 6 out of 10 Pest Professionals – almost 84% – report that bed bug infestations continue to be on the rise. And although they’re a year-round problem, the peak season for bed bugs tends to be the summer time. So that means families should be careful when traveling abroad and staying in hotels/condominiums. But how do you find them – or, make sure your room doesn’t have a problem?

The NPMA recommends the following bed bug prevention tips when traveling:

  • At hotels, pull back sheets and inspect mattress seams, for telltale bed bug stains. Inspect the entire room before unpacking, including sofas and chairs and behind the headboard. Notify management of anything suspect and change rooms or establishments immediately.
  • If you need to change rooms, don’t move to a room adjacent or directly above or below the suspected infestation.
  • Keep suitcases in plastic trash bags or protective covers during your stay to prevent bed bugs from nesting there.
  • When home, inspect suitcases before bringing them into the house and vacuum them before storing.
  • Wash all clothes – even those not worn – in hot water to eliminate any bed bugs and their eggs.

Bed bugs can be a problem. But if noticed, you can keep them from your family. You can also use the steps in your home. If you see bed bugs, or think you have them, contact Brock Pest Control and let us protect your family.

Some say this old saying originated years ago in the times when bed bugs were a very common problem. Wrapping yourself up “tight” would hopefully prevent you from getting bitten. Though this was probably pretty ineffective.
